I am trying to find a simple to use editor to simply cut a segment out of an existing MPEG-1 video. I tried your software, which I thought was supposed to leave the video unchanged, other than shortening the clip.

After saving the edit I compared the original file to the clip using MediaInfo and got the following results:

Original File:
Bit Rate Mode: VBR
Bit Rate: 1404 Kbps

Clip file:
Bit Rate Mode: CBR
Bit Rate: 1419 Kbps
Nominal bit rate: 1150 Kbps

All other settings (Codec, Codec Family, Width, Height, etc.) are exact matches.

If I compare a single frame from the clip to the original it seems to be very slightly more blurry.
So the question is, is there really no change or is there not?

Thanks for an otherwise promising program.

Hello,

There are two slightly different exporting/saving of an edited MPEG-1/2 video without video re-encoding.

1. "Trim" save from within the Input monitor

- open/load the MPEG file in the Input monitor
- set the mark-in and mark-out frames
- right mouse click in the video display window to bring up the context menu
- select "Trim... (Ctrl+S)"
- select a file name, or use the default name suggested by the editor
- press the Save button and the save will start

NOTE:
a) the default "Trim" will save the segment with frame-accuracy, but there is going to be one or two frames being re-encoded, at the beginning and at the end of the segment, in order to have the saved file fully decoded without error.

b) the other option is to set the "GOP Trim" check box on the
Options (F10) -> Export
which will instruct the editor to save the "Trimmed" video without re-encoding any frame by moving the mark-in and mark-out frames to a I-frame (intra-coded frame), or "on the GOP boundary". But the frame-accuracy will be lost.

2. save via the timeline and export path.

- open/load the MPEG file in the Input monitor
- set the mark-in and mark-out frames
- press 'G' on the keyboard to add the selected segment to the timeline editor
- in the timeline, save it to a ".wbp" file via the "Save as" button on its upper left corner
- press the Export button (red colored) in the timeline's toolbox on the lower right end
- select "Automatic (*.mpg)" for the Save as type
- select a file name and press the Save button
- the segment will be saved to a new MPEG file with the same MPEG format as that of the input

Note: If there is only one segment in the timeline, this is equivalent to the first (a) "Trim".

Now, back to your bug report.

You seemed to indicate that the saved MPEG file has the coding format changed.

In this case, I would like to ask you to check it again using any one of the above methods, provided that you also make sure that you are using the latest updated version of the editor.

The current versions are

VCR: 3.14.7.3 (11/2009)
MVW-DVD 4.0: 4.0.0.114 (07/2009)
MVW-DVD 5.0: 5.0.0.103 (12/2009)

all of which can be downloaded from the web site

http://www.womble.com/download/

If you are using the latest version and/or the problem persists, could you help us to find and fix the problem quickly by sending me a sample copy of the original MPEG-1 file, along with a detailed description of steps with which the problem could be reproduced?

If you have any other request or problem, please email me directly, or post here.

Please let me know.

Yes it is possible, it is completely depends on the software using for this purpose of cutting if its features and quality are good than it will work smoothly according to you and provide the required result without shortening the size of the video.
